Sam Kelly and friends at the Ealing Blues Festival

August 24th, 2013

This is rather late, but it’s been a very musical summer – and hoping to go see Sam Kelly’s Station House tonight at Oakham.

The Ealing Blues Festival is held annually in Walpole Park – a bit of a drive from me, but the line-up was excellent so decided to risk driving into London!

I did pop by the main stage (see Never the Bride and Dr Feelgood below) at the start and end of the day:

..although most of the bands I wanted to see were on the second stage. Rabbit Foot were performing when we arrived:

But of course the band I waited for was Sam Kelly and friends. I’d seen Sam before in Kingston earlier in the year and other members of the band when they’d played with 3rd Degree Leburn in the village but it would be the first time that I saw Jimmy Lindsay. The set was amazing, with guests appearing at regular intervals – the singers Rowena Poole and Lisa Marini, Nick Garner on harmonica, guitarist Frankie Connolly and finally the great Jimmy Lindsay. By this time the stage was full, and it was almost a Fowokan and friends!

Some of my favourite shots from the night:

Finally – I think these were the two best images of the night:

I also took a video of Jimmy Lindsay performing “No Woman No Cry”, which can be found on my YouTube channel.
