– with a difference! The Summer Regatta is held annually in the village next to mine and, like my village, is at least 10 miles from anything larger than a stream so the boats are worn rather than paddled. A really lovely community event, and great fun was had by both spectators who had the advantage of access to the Pimms pit stop and a bar (hidden away in the bus shelter) and the competitors. The theme this year was “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”
- The gypsy caravan
- The event sponsors, Mr & Mrs Popat from Popsons Chemists – celebrating 25 years in the village
- Marriott’s Butchers preparing to sell their excellent burgers
- One of the event organisers, Iain
- Part of the “refreshment” crew
- Alternative beverages were available
- A quiet moment for the fire crew – who sprayed each team as they returned after running round the village
- It would appear the Eydon team were getting some advice
- Getting ready for the race
- And they’re off – the race to the boats
- They’re away – the “airship” appears to be trying to take off
- The winners
- The Barmy Army
- Solden Hill’s “boat”, probably the most elaborate
- The winners of the two man race
- Janet (in the red), another of the organisers
